Vancouver Wedding Photographers
Day 4 of 4, and no better couple to end our Thanksgiving Weekend Wedding Marathon!
K.I.S. Keep it simple. That’s what I noticed as we started photographing Myra in her hotel room. The room itself wasn’t cluttered with knick knacks, black and white furniture, clean lines, amazing window light (key to shooting getting ready shots at hotels!!!). They didn’t have a wedding party. No clothes scattered. No Starbucks cups laying around. It was a very peaceful and easy going morning, which made me very calm shooting Myra getting ready and her accessories.
Again, a gray day outside, but that just meant nice soft light, and no heavy Norman to hull around to over power the sun (big flash that I usually have to carry and hold Myra and Clayton’s ceremony took place at the Sun Yat Sen Gardens in Chinatown. There were about 13 guests present for the ceremony. Loved it! There’s something about having just immediate family at a wedding that makes me feel all tingly inside. Can’t quite put it into words. But I love it.
Clayton got ready in another room in the same hotel, and once he was ready, he came up to Myra’s room to hang out and wait for her. No big first look or anything, in fact Clayton said that he’d already seen Myra in her dress! Hey, who says there are rules to these weddings things?!? It gets me every time! As Myra was saying her vows, she started to tear and had to pause for a second…and I choked up! Hugest calla lily fan! And love the color combination! Dan and I were pleasantly surprised to find out that Myra was a model in a past life! Somewhat quiet and reserved, a tad shy…she was like a whole new person when we started shooting after the wedding! Love it! One of their requested locations…so fitting. It was also our first time at The Salmon House in West Vancouver. Delicious food, great service, and a beautiful view! Decadent! I ate half of Dan’s too :p Myra and Clayton had requested to have our photo booth at their wedding, but unfortunately, the space was very limited for us to set up our equipment. So what do you do!? Improvise! We shot against this interested Native glass art piece in the middle of a wall, stuck our Norman flash behind it outside the restaurant on the patio, et voila! Myra and Clayton’s first dance. Beautiful! Clayton’s mom and sister sang Myra and Clayton’s first dance song. I can’t describe how mesmerizing their voices were! Father-daughter dance!
What a great day. It’s a very unique feeling being included in such small wedding. We feel honored, humbled, special. Thank you Myra and Clayton for having Dan and I. All the best to you both as you settle down in Ontario!
